Altair Selects Two Engineering Students for Two-Year Paid Summer Internship Program

TROY -- Engineering students from universities in South Carolina and Utah have been selected as the latest participants in Altair Engineering's paid, two-summer internship program. The initiative is part of Altair's ongoing internship program that cycles new students into the organization annually to earn real-world experience.

Austin Culberson, a mechanical engineering student at Clemson University, and Pavel Yurevich, who is studying mechanical engineering at Brigham Young University, will be employed for three months this summer at Altair headquarters in Troy, working in the HyperWorks support organization with industry customers, project management teams, sales teams and several Altair business units. During the summer of 2013 they will work in Altair's ProductDesign division, learning how computer simulation is applied to the design process, and how Altair ProductDesign combines its domain expertise and HyperWorks technology to develop innovative, minimum-weight design solutions.

Culberson is from Kingsport, Tenn., and Yurevich is a native of Minsk, Belarus, residing in Provo, Utah. They were chosen for the program after Altair conducted extensive resume reviews, telephone interviews and on-site campus interviews of finalist candidates. The students will work closely with experts throughout Altair, which is known globally for its high-tech CAE software and consulting services for engineering, computing and business analytics.

"This internship will provide me with real-world applications to my education through the use of modern technology, thus enabling me to be better prepared for the future of engineering," said Culberson. "I look forward to learning Altair's world-class engineering modeling software and gaining experience from the company's achievements with the military and defense sectors and then having the opportunity to combine my engineering knowledge with the software to see real engineering results."

"With each interaction I've become more excited to be a part of Altair and its innovative culture," said Yurevich. "It will be an eye-opening experience, during which I'll be able to use and evaluate what I've learned in the classroom, familiarize myself with all the current trends in engineering, and apply real-life experience to the theoretical knowledge gained through my regular coursework. The experience will allow me to learn not only how to work as an engineer, but also how engineering firms typically interact with their clients. This will help refine my interests in finite element analysis, composite materials and topology optimization, and will create a solid foundation for my future career. I am ready to experience the complexity and thrill of being an engineer and move from the idealistic conditions of a classroom to a focus on solving real world problems."

Altair developed the summer internship program to acquaint students with the fundamentals of CAE, a rapidly expanding discipline required for creating simulations used in various industries for designing and perfecting everything from automobiles and airplanes to washing machines and golf clubs.

After completing their internships, the students will be evaluated for possible fulltime employment at Altair or on site with one of Altair's industry-leading customers or partners. The internship program complements Altair's longstanding support for the educational community with programs that provide collaboration tools and access to the company's technology and engineering expertise.
