Designers' Show House In Grosse Pointe Ready For Its Close-Up

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Can't get enough of HGTV? You're in luck because you can live the beautiful life in person -- at least briefly -- with help from the Junior League of Detroit.

The League has transformed a historic Grosse Pointe Shores home into a dream with help from 30 top local designers.  The house will feature impeccably decorated rooms, fully landscaped gardens, a boutique, and a garden, with items for sale.

"We are proud to be able to showcase so many of the area's most talented interior designers at the 19th biennial Designers' Show House," said JLD President Ann Turnbull in a press release. "Additionally, we will be putting a special focus on technology and modern amenities, which will bring a unique twist to this historic home."

The 10,304 square foot house was built in 1928 as the home of Oscar Webber, nephew of Joseph L. Hudson. Designed by famed architect Leonard B. Willeke, the home features seven bedrooms, a third floor ballroom, 11 Pewabic tile bathrooms, six Pewabic tile fireplaces and hand-carved wood and plaster throughout the home as well as a view of Lake St. Clair.

This will be the second time this historic home has served as the JLD's Designers' Show House; it made its debut in 1994.

The Designers' Show House will be open to the public Saturday, May 5 through Sunday, May 20, 2012. Hours of operation will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 3 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.

A special preview party will be held the evening of Friday, May 4.

Tickets to tour the decorated house will be $15 if purchased in advance, or $20 at the door. Group tour specials are also available. Tickets will be available throughout the area at local retailers; contact the Junior League of Detroit office 313- 881-0040 or visit jldetroit.org for more details and ticket locations.

Held every other year since 1976, the Designers' Show House is the Junior League of Detroit's most significant fundraiser. Close to $2.5 million has been raised for programs and projects in the city of Detroit. Proceeds from the 2012 Designers' Show House will support the Junior League of Detroit's family and educational programming in the city of Detroit and will provide funding for the Junior League of Detroit's Community Assistance Grants.
