Bullpen Lets Tigers Down Again
The Tigers have a different hero every day when they win and a new goat when they don't.
Now it's the bullpen's turn.
The win-one, lose-one treadmill Detroit had been on for more than two weeks has now turned into three losses in its last four games as rookie Luke Putkonen unraveled a 5-4 Tigers lead by allowing three Chicago runs in the sixth. The White Sox bullpen held on for a 7-5 win.
"We came out swinging the bats much better," manager Jim Leyland said of his team, which had a 5-2 lead by the time the third inning ended. "We didn't hold them and the fact we didn't add on runs killed us."
