"Battleship" Is Right On Target
NOVI (WWJ) – Pop superstar Rihanna makes her feature film debut in the action-packed movie "Battleship" -- and both are right on target!
Battleship – based on Hasbro's classic naval combat game – was written for the Big Screen by Jon and Erich Hoeber (Red). Rihanna stars as Petty Officer Raikes, a weapons specialist on the USS Sampson, who knows how to pack quite a punch in the heat of battle.
In addition to Rihanna, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancé; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, and Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; and Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.
Battleship focuses on the battle for Earth, which begins at sea, off the coast of Hawaii. It's a pretty interesting and well-thought-out storyline, which finds some unlikely partners battling together to save the Earth from a "superior force."
If you enjoy action and adventure, you're sure to enjoy Battleship. It's no longer just a well-known game -- it's now a fun movie to watch.
One side note: The movie's credits are long - but DO NOT leave the theater before seeing them. That is, if you want to get a sneak peek at what's sure to be the sequel.
Battleship is a Universal Pictures release; produced and directed by Peter Berg (Hancock).
