Did 7-Year-Old Detroit Boy Commit Suicide?

DETROIT (WWJ) - Was it a tragic accident -- or a suicide?

Detroit Police are investigating the death of a 7-year-old boy found with a belt around his neck, hanging from the railing of a bunk bed at a home on the city's west side.

According to a police, the boy's 14-year-old sister found him, apparently unconscious, at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and went to get help. An adult family member attempted to revive the boy.

Police received a call of a suicide in the 700 block of Pingree Street and rushed to the home, administering CPR until an EMS unit arrived.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The child's name was not immediately released.

Police are investigating in an effort to determine a cause of death.

A neighbor who knew the boy described him as cheerful, happy and smart. But the parents told police the boy had been bullied, although those circumstances are not yet clear.
