Should Bob Ficano Be Censured, Or Simply Step Down?

DETROIT (WWJ) - There's been some movement in an effort to reprimand Wayne County Executive Roberto Ficano.

Wayne County Commissioners on Thursday took a step toward formerly rebuking Ficano for his scandal-plagused adminstration.

Wayne County's charter does not give commissioners the power to remove Ficano from office. Instead, some commissioners are putting their support behind a motion to censure him.

Commissioner Laura Cox accused her colleagues of operating as "good o'l boys" after they moved to amend her resolution that asked Ficano to step down.

"People don't come up to me in Wal-Mart and (say), 'Good job ... censure.' They don't say that," said Cox. "They said, 'Get him out. Get somebody else in there, get all that mess decided. And a censure vote today is not gonna accomplish that."

Five former member of the Ficano administration to face federal corruption charges.

What do you think?

Ficano has repeatedly refused to resign, asserting that he has done nothing wrong. He said that calls for his ouster simply amount to "election year politics."

Commisioners are expected to put the matter to a final vote on June 7.
