Commissioners Vote To Censure Wayne County Exec

DETROIT (WWJ) - Wayne County Commissioners have voted to censure Executive Robert Ficano due to the multiple scandals engulfing his administration.

Thursday's vote was 14-to-1 with Commissioner Laura Cox casting the lone no vote.

She wants him gone.

"My voice is not shooting blanks. People stop me all the time and thank me for speaking out," said Cox. "They want a call for a resignation and calling for his resignation does more than just saying that we don't like what he did and we slapped him on the wrist."

The censure resolution passed Thursday would form a committee to create a ballot initiative to ask voters if they want to give the Commission power to investigate and remove elected officials from office.

While his office has been plagued by indictments and allegations, Ficano maintains that he has done nothing wrong. He plans to stay put.
