strong>MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWJ) – A terrible accident caused by a wrong-way driver shuts down a section of westbound I-696 in Madison Heights Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 6:00 a.m. shortly after a driver — who was not involved in the crash — dialed 911 to report that he had almost been hit by a driver going the wrong way on the westbound side of the freeway.

accident cleanup 6 10 12 Wrong Way Driver Causes Accident On I 696<From the looks of things, rescuers had to use the jaws of life to free the victims. The roof of one car was just completely ripped off. The other car was completely missing the driver's side door.

Miraculously, Michigan State Police say no one was killed. Identities have not been released.
