Suspect Sought In Unwelcome Hugging

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - Police in Eastpointe are warning parents to be on alert after a child was approached by a stranger who hugged her closely and wouldn't let go.

It happened as the 10-year-old girl was walking home from Toepfer Middle School, at Toepfer and David, just after noon on Thursday.

Police said the girl told the man to stop but he only did so when bystanders saw what was happening and yelled at him.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, with short, straight brown hair and a thin build. He was wearing a red and horizontal-striped shirt and black jeans.

Police said it's unclear whether he is the same man who kissed a Sterling Heights third grader earlier this week.

Anyone who thinks they can identify this suspect is asked to call Eastpointe police at (586) 445-5100 or the detective bureau at (568) 445-9121.
