FERNDALE (WWJ) – A first of its kind job fair will take place in Ferndale on Thursday.
Affirmations, a community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender people (LGBT), will be host to Michigan’s first ever LGBT Midwest Job Expo on Thursday, June 21 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Affirmations Events and Sponsorship Manager Mark McMillan tells WWJ about the job expo – where over 20 companies throughout the Midwest region will be represented.
“We hope to provide job seekers an open and safe environment to pursue employment without fear of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity”, said McMillan . “Looking for work is already an overwhelming task and knowing there are currently no legal protections in Michigan for the LGBT population regarding discrimination in the workplace, makes it especially daunting. “
McMillian says that through the job fair they hope to help alleviate some of that added stress by featuring LGBT friendly businesses and organizations looking for new employees.
