1. Center fielder Austin Jackson has returned from injury. The Tigers were 8-14 with Jackson out of the lineup. They are 25-20 when he has played.
2. The Tigers have improved in the field. Second baseman Ramon Santiago, who struggled defensively earlier this season, has fielded considerably better of late.
3. The bullpen has more depth. Brayan Villarreal has been particularly effective.
