Truck Driver Questioned After Hit-And-Run Accident

LANSING (WWJ) - A semi truck driver is being questioned by police after allegedly hitting a man walking on eastbound I-496 early Friday morning.

Lansing Police Sgt. Ryan Cressman said the accident happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday, just east of Pennsylvania Avenue, when the large commercial vehicle apparently hit a pedestrian and then kept driving.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries.  It wasn't immediately clear why he was walking on the freeway.

Eastbound I-496 in Lansing was shut down for about three hours, but one lane is now open.

An investigation is ongoing.  No names have been released.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact Lansing Police at 517-483-4600.
