Mich. DHS Employee Charged With Embezzlement

LANSING (AP) - The Michigan attorney general's office has charged a state Department of Human Services employee with embezzling more than $4,000.

The two felony embezzlement charges that were announced Friday came after an investigation by the DHS Office of Inspector General.
The investigation found that the employee, Michelle Metzmaker, used procurement cards for personal benefit.

The 43-year-old Lansing resident worked as a general office assistant for the Michigan Community Service Commission within DHS. She was responsible for making travel arrangements and food purchases for meetings related to DHS operations.

The AG's office says Metzmaker embezzled $4,415.48 between September 2009 and June 2011.

Metzmaker turned herself in and was arraigned in Lansing District Court on Friday.

She's been placed on unpaid suspension.
