Wooley's Weekly Winners 6-29-12

By: Ryan Wooley

Here are my Weekly Winners for the final week in June. As always, leave a comment below or follow me on Twitter @WooleyMammoth85 and let me know if you agree or disagree and who you would choose instead.

Detroit Pistons

For the third straight year the Pistons have found themselves in a good position in the NBA Draft as yet another top five talent has fallen to them, helping form a solid young nucleus. First it was Brandon Knight, then Greg Monroe, and now most recently Andre Drummond. Yes, Drummond has some downfalls like how young he is and the lack of experience after leaving high school early and only playing one year at Uconn. He however possess the body of an NBA player, agility that any team would want and he plays above the rim and is a great rebounder, shot blocker and post defender.

We all know the Pistons won't win a title this year and that Drummond is a work in progress, but they will be better and more fun to watch with Drummond this season.

Dewayne Wise

It only takes one play or one moment in your career to make yourself a household name and some would say that Wise did that when he saved Mark Buehrle's perfect game, but I say it came with his catch that wasn't a catch against the Indians. By Wise going along with umpire Mike DiMuro's call that Jack Hannahan's foul ball was caught in the stands, Wise permanently put himself on the top 10 video of why Major League Baseball needs instant replay expanded.

Calvin Johnson

It's not very often you get to learn what your peers think about you in your profession, but Calvin got to learn first hand this week that many of his believe he is one of the best players in the NFL. The NFL Network conducted a poll asking players to rate who they think the best players are in the league, and no surprise that Aaron Rodgers was picked number one and Drew Brees number two. Calvin however checked in at number three and I can't say that I disagree. We always knew that Megatron was a "freak", but we finally got to see how much of one last season. The thing I find most funny in all of this though is that Chris Carter stated last season that Calvin wasn't even a top five receiver and yet here he is being voted the third best player in the entire NFL! Not just at the wide receiver position, but the entire league! How's that humble pie taste now Chris?
