Fake Fundraising Puts Damper On High School Band's Olympic Travel

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Martin Luther King, Junior, High School Band will perform at the London Olympics, but some young people have been fraudulently soliciting donations in their name.

The Detroit Public Schools say, in a statement, that a group of young people, not affiliated with Martin Luther King High School, have been asking for donations for the band at the Home Depot on Meyers Road and at a Kroger grocery on West Eight Mile near Wyoming.

They say if it was a legitimate fundraising effort, students would be clearly identifiable with their school and adult representatives.
