Blacked Out West Bloomfield Provides Water And Ice

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) - It will be a hot, dark night for thousands of local residents as DTE Energy crews work to restore power lost during Thursday morning's thunderstorms.

DTE is projecting power outages for areas in West Bloomfield Township until Sunday, July 8 at 10 p.m. (More on the power outages here).

And, and the heat index hovers near 100, the Township is offering some relief.

Township supervisor Michele Ureste says water and ice will be available at the fire stations beginning Thursday evening.

"We learn from our mistakes, right? In the past, there have been criticisms that the Township during the 2003 blackout did not provide a cooling facility," Ureste told WWJ Newsradio 950. "So we are stepping up. So we are trying to make the water and ice available to the public and cooling stations as well."

She said they want to make sure their residents are taken care of.

"The biggest concern is the senior population. And West Bloomfield, in particular, has a very high concentration of senior citizens," Ureste said.
