Malicious Software May Keep Some From Accessing Internet

DETROIT (WWJ) - If your computer was infected by malicious software more than a year ago, you may not be able to get online after midnight Sunday.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports that the FBI is planning to shut down the internet servers that were set up as a temporary safety net to keep infected computers online.

Technology reporter at PCMike.com, Mike Wendland, says this has been so well publicized that most people have already fixed the problem.

"It is probably going to take a few people by surprise, but when you look at 64,000 people across millions and millions of computer use in the U.S. it's going to hit a very miniscule amount," he said.

"The gang that did this did this to commandeer websites so they made a lot of money by getting people to go to websites where they clicked on advertising, but in the process they infected computers and they are going to cause huge headaches," said Wendland.

Wendland says it's a simple fix , call your internet service provider for help.
