Sanilac County Jail To Undergo Renovation, Expansion
SANDUSKY (AP) - The Sanilac County jail soon will undergo a renovation and expansion.
County Administrator Kathy Dorman tells the Times Herald of Port Huron crews likely will begin work on the project by the end of the month.
Board of Commissioners Chairman James Bowerman and a representative of Booms Construction Inc. of Bad Axe signed construction contracts last week. The county expects to pay the company $6.9 million to build a 19,000-square-foot addition and renovate the existing building.
Dorman says the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program approved the county's request for $8 million in loans to fund the jail project, which should take about a year-and-a-half to complete.
The addition will contain a booking area, lobby with video visitation stations and administrative offices.
