Jackson Opens Game With Homer

CF Austin Jackson led off a game with a home run for the eighth time in his three-season career Monday night, driving a ball out to left-center. "I was just trying to be aggressive early in the count," he said. "I got a fastball and put a good swing on it." Jackson now has a career-best 57 RBI, 15 more than fifth-place hitter DH Delmon Young. Jackson's 11th home run equals the number Young has.

--RHP Max Scherzer turned in a decent start except for the fact Boston hitters crushed his mistakes. "I thought overall Scherzer pitched pretty good," manager Jim Leyland said. Scherzer lost for the first time since June 23, allowing a two-run home run by 2B Dustin Pedroia that broke a 2-2 tie. "It was frustrating for me because both walks scored," Scherzer said. "I take pride in not giving in in situations like that. When you give them extra runners, stuff like that happens. That pitch to Pedroia, I missed my spot."
