“Heart Of A Champion” Walk/Run Takes Place On Belle Isle

DETROIT (WWJ) – Keep your heart healthy, that’s part of a message from the famed Detroit gospel music family, the Winans.

The 5th annual Ron Winans “Heart of a Champion” 5k/10k walk – run takes place Saturday on Belle Isle from 8 a.m. until noon. The event is named in honor of the late Ron Winans who died of heart complications in 2005.

Rev. Marvin Winans, pastor of Perfecting Church in Detroit is his brother. He says it’s serious subject but come out to have fun.

“You don’t need your game face, you just need to come, walk, move. We’ll have the DMC (Detroit Medical Center) there with screenings to check for blood pressure, diabetes … cholestrol and advice for living healthy,” said Winans.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States.
