Alleged Fake Kidnapping Scheme Backfires On "Victim"

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A bad idea, poorly executed as Oakland County Sheriff's deputies take a man into custody after they say he faked a kidnapping and ransom, to try to support a drug habit.

The man was reported missing in Rochester Hills, after sending text messages to his wife saying he was being held against his will.

Police tracked him and a suspect down to a fast food parking lot in Pontiac -- where the "victim" allegedly admitted to police that it was all a scam.

Both were arrested, but released as the investigation continues.
