A Road Trip -- With A Twist

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's a road trip -- with a twist.

The Beutler family of Traverse City is on a 1,200-mile, week-long road trip. Daniel Beutler, his wife, Alline, and their two daughters, ages 11 and 13, have driven their 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Station Wagon to Cedar Point, upstate New York and Toronto. They'll stop at Greenfield Village in Dearborn mid-week before heading back home.

Several things have NOT gone along with them on the trip: there are no cell phones or iPods. So, what do you do for entertainment? And, how are the kids holding up?

"They've gotten a little antsy in the back seat, but ... we're playing the license plate game and looking for license plates from the different states and there's been more sleeping than on typical trips," said Daniel Beutler, the head accountant at Hagerty Insurance. And 11-year-old Eliza agrees.

"It's a little bit different cause I'm sleeping a lot," 11-year-old Eliza Beutler said. She does admit, though, that she'll probably call her friends as soon as she gets back home.
