Humane Society Seeks Home For Kitten Rescued From Drain Pipe

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) – He was filthy, but his lungs were healthy, as Rudy the ginger-colored kitten made his position known -- loudly -- inside a Detroit drainpipe.

A resident heard him mewling his heart out and called the Michigan Humane Society.

The Humane Society Cruelty Investigation and Rescue team got out demolition equipment and chipped away at as much of the pipe as they could. They lowered a towel covered in kitten food, then a lasso, and about an hour later managed to get him out.

He emerged blinking rapidly, with dirt in his eyes and all over his fur. Watch video of the rescue HERE.

Rudy, five weeks old,  has been examined by veterinarians and was found to be in good condition, according to the Humane Society. He will be cared for at the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care until his state-mandated stray holding period is up on Thursday, Aug. 30, at which time he will be placed for adoption.

Three other kittens were discovered in a hole in the homeowner's west side Detroit house foundation. All were taken to the Detroit Center for Animal Care.

If no owner steps forward to claim Rudy and his siblings, after being held for the state-mandated four-day stray holding period, they will be placed for adoption.
