Teens Learn Dangers Of Texting While Driving

DETROIT (WWJ) - Teens will be taught first-hand the dangers of distractions behind the wheel at a special event today at Comerica Park. Community group ACCESS is teaming up with Allstate to put cell phones into the hands of teens while they drive.

West Bloomfield teen Alex Krendel says he's learned first-hand how distracting it can be to text while driving.

"Think I looked at my phone for one quick second, and some random guy just slammed on his brakes for no apparent reason right in front of me, and luckily I was able to stop in time cause I kept a good distance," Krendel said.

But Krendell admits he still texts on occasion when it's important.
