Tigers Lose Slugfest To Royals, 9-8

KANSAS CITY, Mo (WWJ/AP) - Delmon Young hit a three-run homer in the ninth inning but the ball was called foul and the Detroit Tigers lose 9-8 to the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Jhonny Peralta hit a solo homer to tie the game in the eighth inning at 8-all and the Royals came right back to take the lead by one run in the bottom of the inning.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - Justin Verlander, the reigning AL MVP and Cy Young Award winner, was charged with eight earned runs, matching his career high, in 5 2-3 innings. It was the third time in Verlander's career he had surrendered eight earned runs and first since April 6, 2009, at Toronto.

Mike Moustakas had three hits and three RBIs  -Moustakas hit a tiebreaking RBI double off Phil Coke with two down in the eighth inning.
