Michigan Group Set To Host Beard, Moustache Event

LANSING (WWJ/AP) - Facial-hair enthusiasts plan to gather this weekend in Lansing for the first Great Lakes Regional Beard and Moustache Championship.

John Buckler is president of the Great American Fierce Beard Organization. He tells MLive.com that "some of the greatest facial hair in the world" will be on display during the competition is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, Sept. 1.

A panel of judges will award trophies to winners in multiple categories, including natural moustache, styled moustache, goatee, sideburns/muttonchops combination and ladies fake beard.

Buckler says the female competition is probably his favorite, since the fake beards can get creative.

All tickets are $10 for both competitors and spectators, with proceeds to benefit the Haven House family shelter and the Lansing Cultural Exchange Program, which sends students to Japan.
