Detroit Students Find Body On Way To School

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - It was anything but a normal start to the day for some Detroit students who discovered a dead body near two schools on the city's west side.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Vickie Thomas reported the teens were walking to class Thursday morning when they spotted the body in the street near Northwestern High School and Detroit Collegiate Prep High School.

One neighbor, who didn't want to give his name, was shocked by the gruesome discovery.

"I saw the plastic around the body and I heard them talking about it was a 30-year-old Caucasian male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen ... in the middle of the street, don't make any damn sense," he said.

Detroit police investigators said it appeared the victim was run over after his body was dumped in the road. A police spokesman said it did not appear that the crime itself involved the high school campus.

Arriving students were rerouted to other entrances.

No further details about the victim were immediately released.
