Police: Detroit Man Asks Woman Out, Hits Her With Metal Object, Steals Car

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) An 18-year-old man is charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct, carjacking and assault with intent to murder after allegedly asking a woman on a date -- and attacking her when she got there.

This could be a cautionary tale for singles.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said teen Darrell Leonard Lane approached  a 24-year-old woman early Wednesday afternoon at a gas station and asked for her phone number.

They connected and the woman, also a Detroiter, met him a few hours later -- at 5:45 p.m. -- at a home in the 11000 block of Prest in Detroit.

"As soon as the female entered the house the defendant is alleged to have assaulted her, held her against her will and sexually assaulted her," Worthy said in a press release.

He also allegedly hit her in the head with a metal object.

"The victim pretended to be unconscious and Lane tied her hands and feet and took her money, a cell phone and her car keys and left the location in her car," Worthy added.

Once the perpetrator was away from the house, the victim broke free and sought help from a nearby neighbor who called the police. The police arrested Lane after he allegedly ran from a car matching the victim's car on the same day.

Lane is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon in 36th District Court.
