4 Hurt In Crash With Detroit Fire Engine

DETROIT (WWJ) – Four people were hurt in a crash involving a Detroit fire truck.

It happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at East Layette and St. Aubin on the city’s east side.

Detroit Fire Department Senior Chief Jack Wiley said a rig, that had coincidentally just left the repair shop, was struck by a sedan that ran a red light.

“She blew this light and she ran into the side of them there,” Wiley told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Stephanie Davis at the scene. “(The firefighter)  sitting on the right side, he saw her coming and he told the driver to look out. He tried to get the rig out of the way but he couldn’t get it out of the way in time.”

No firefighters were hurt. Those injured did include a pedestrian who was hit by flying debris. Their conditions were not immediately known.

No name have been released.
