Teacher Faces Charges For Alleged Sex With Student

REED CITY (WWJ/AP) - A 32-year-old Michigan teacher who authorities say had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy is facing charges.

TV station WPBN and the Cadillac News reported Janet Brown of Evart was arrested Monday night and arraigned in Osceola County District Court Tuesday on three felony counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Brown's lawyer James Talaske said his client lifelong ties to the area. A judge set bond at $50,000 and she was released. A preliminary hearing is Dec. 6.

Officials said Brown worked for the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District and taught at the Ashmun School at Eagle Village, a school southeast of Reed City, 60 miles north of Grand Rapids. She was placed on leave earlier this month.

Police said the boy involved is a student and the relationship was discovered through mobile phone messages.

According to the school's website, Eagle Village provides help for troubled Michigan teens.
