DETROIT (WWJ) – While a jackpot winning ticket wasn’t sold in Michigan, at least two people in the state now have a lot of holiday cash, and some to spare.

The numbers for Wednesday’s historic Powerball drawing were 5-16-22-23-29 with Powerball 6.

Two tickets matched every number to win the grand jackpot of $579.9 million before taxes. Those tickets were sold in Arizona and Missouri.

In addition to the two winning tickets, more than 8,900 smaller prizes were won — including two $1 million winners in Michigan.

Andi Brancato, with the Michigan Lottery, said one ticket was sold at a liquor store in the Grand Rapids suburb of Kentwood, and the other at a CVS pharmacy in Dearborn.

“The first thing they need to do is sign the back of that ticket and put it in a safe place, then give us a call at the lottery and we will start the process for them to come and claim their prize,” she said.

Brancato also said you’ll have to make a trip to Lansing to claim the prize.

“Usually, it could be a week or so before a player calls us and usually that’s because they’re spending a little time to first of all recover from the fact that they won, and second of all, to consult with a financial advisor, which we encourage them to do,” she said.

“But they have to call us first and make an appointment. We had some Mega Millions jackpot winners come in one time without an appointment, and this process does take some time, and I had to explain that, you know, it’s not like we have this money in a little box underneath my desk or anything, there’s a definite process,” Brancato continued.

Wednesday night’s jackpot was the largest ever in Powerball history.
