RAISINVILLE TWP. (WWJ/AP) – Authorities say eight churches in Monroe County have been burglarized since October and the thefts may be linked.
The latest break-in happened Wednesday at Grape Missionary Baptist Church on Ida Maybee Road in Raisinville Township, about 35 miles southwest of Detroit.
Police say cupboards and cabinets were searched and two jugs of change collected for the needy were taken. Christmas presents also were reported stolen.
The Sheriff’s Department says the burglars got into the church by forcing a window open.
The church break-ins have been reported since Oct. 1. Authorities are investigating whether the same person might be involved in the thefts, because the method of operation appear similar.
