The Tigers were interested in Scott Hairston, but he’s too expensive for what they are looking for, according to CBSSports.com’s Danny Knobler. The team will continue to look for a cheaper platoon option in the outfield. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reported the team was interested in Hairston.
The team is looking to add a right-handed bat to the lineup, and Hairston would fit. He would likely platoon in left field with Andy Dirks, according to James Schmehl of mlive.com. Hairston has been particularly effective against left-handed pitching over his career and hit .286/.317/.550 against lefties last year. There were reports that Detroit was interested in Hairston around the trade deadline, but nothing ever materialized.
