Fraser Family Loses Home To Fire Days Before Christmas

FRASER (WWJ) - A Fraser family has lost their home to a fire just two days before Christmas.

The fire at the two story home on Woody Street, near 14 Mile and Kelly, started before four in the morning Sunday.

Fraser department of public safety Lt. Dan Kolke said the second story collapsed during the fire but the family was not home at the time.

"It is a family, a mother, father and a couple of kids, they have already been set up ... got the Red Cross out there and they have already set them up in a hotel temporarily until the insurance company can get more for them," said Kolke.

The home is a total loss.

"The flames were coming through the roof - they went to a defensive attack with our truck and protected the exposures and extinguished a lot of the fire, we had to bring in a backhoe to knock the rest of the house down to get to the rest of the fire," he said.

No one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Kolke said foul play does not appear to be involved.
