Man Opens Fire On Freeway, Hits Woman 9 Times

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Police are still investigating a wild scene that unfolded New Year's Day on westbound I-94 near Livernois that had the freeway shut down for several hours.

Officers said it happened shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday after a man and a woman left the MGM Grand Casino in Detroit and became involved in a traffic incident with another vehicle.

The two reportedly continued driving on the Lodge freeway and then onto I-94 when they noticed they were being followed by a black Ford Expedition.

On I-94 near Junction, Michigan State Police said the suspect or suspects opened fire on the vehicle striking both the driver and the passenger several times. Both were rushed to a local hospital. The male driver is being interviewed by police.

His female passenger was struck nine times and is hospitalized with non life threatening wounds.
