Clergy Ask Governor To Take Stronger Stance On Gun Control

DETROIT (WWJ) - Holding cards with the names of murdered children, dozens of Michigan religious leaders called on Governor Rick Snyder to enact stronger gun control measures.

About 50 clergy members asked Snyder to take the lead on addressing gun violence during a prayer service outside the Michigan Capitol on Tuesday.

Ruth Chapel is the pastor of A.M.E Church in Detroit.

"The rally is bring attention to the desperate need of intervention for the gun violence - take it up another notch - to bring about what going on locally to the awareness of the state," said Chapel.

The Governor has said he wants lawmakers to focus on improving the state's mental health system rather than passing gun legislation.
