Semi-Truck Driver Injured In Collision On I-75

DETROIT (WWJ) - A crash involving a semi truck and three other cars caused big backups Wednesday along northbound I-75 near Seven Mile in Detroit.

The driver of the truck was in critical condition, but no other serious injuries were reported. Kenneth Johnson was one of the drivers involved in that crash. He says it looked like another driver swerved in front of the semi.

"I see the car, I see the Cadillac come up on the wreck , I see him crash and then once he crash, there was more, the top of his stuff fell right in front of us," said Johnson. "I know he hit the car ... I know he hit our car, I'm just surprised he didn't damage our car like that - it was real lucky."

Sergeant Paul Dipetro talked to WWJ about what happened.

"You just have one of these chain reaction collisions ... took a couple of drivers to the hospital and we are just trying to piece it together right now to figure out what happened," Sgt. Dipetro said. "Figure it's three cars and one truck."

Backups during the afternoon drive extended for five miles.

MDOT had also been on the scene looking for any signs of structural damage to an overpass that was hit by the truck.
