19-Year-Old Charged In Mother's Stabbing Death

JACKSON (WWJ/AP) - A 19-year-old Concord man has been charged with stabbing his mother to death.

David Kellen Grow was arraigned Thursday on an open murder count in Jackson County District Court.

Police and prosecutors say Grow used a knife to kill Robin Grow Wednesday at their home in Concord, about 15 miles west of Jackson. Her husband found the body.

Prosecutors say Grow "brutally" stabbed his mother multiple times, although they would not publicly discuss a possible motive in the killing.

At the request of the prosecutor's office, Judge Daniel Goostrey ordered Grow to undergo an evaluation at the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Washtenaw County. The judge says an attorney will be appointed for Grow, who appeared in court without a lawyer.

Officials at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry will determine whether Grow is competent to stand trial.

Grow is currently being held in the county jail without bond.
