JACKSON — United Way of Jackson County donors, partners and volunteers will find it easier to reach and communicate with United Way and its fellow nonprofits thanks to a $70,000 phone system donation by Avaya Inc. and SunTel Services.
Avaya is a global leader in business communications, and SunTel is a Michigan-based provider for voice, data, video and enterprise networks for businesses across the state.
After being alerted to the United Way’s need by Consumers Energy, SunTel replaced the aging phone system at United Way’s nonprofit campus at 536 N. Jackson St. with an Avaya IP office system that uses the latest Voice over Internet Protocol technology to increase efficiency and reduce cost.
“We are delighted to help the United Way improve its service to the community,” said SunTel president Gary Jackson. “The Avaya system and SunTel support will enable United Way to provide even better service to those in need in the community, which is critically important during these challenging times.”
The United Way Center houses 13 nonprofits, many of which share IT and other technology services, including phone systems. The previous system required significant cost and labor each time service was required.
“Our existing phone system was donated to us by Consumers Energy when we opened the United Way Center campus back in 2007,” said Ken Toll, Chief Executive Officer of the United Way. “It had been retired from Consumers Energy’s service at that time and it was a great, low-cost way to help support the many nonprofits who share our buildings. We’re delighted that Avaya and SunTel have teamed up to help us to meet the needs of the community for now and into the future with a reliable, low cost and flexible system.”
