WINTER STORM AFTERMATH: SNOWFALL TOTALS | TRAFFICRADAR | FLIGHT TRACKERSCHOOL CLOSINGS

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) It’s not everyday that one of the biggest stars in the firmament of Major League Baseball trades in the show for the minor leagues.

So that’s why Justin Verlander’s plans for Saturday are so notable.

Verlander, one of the most highly regarded pitchers in the game, will start Saturday for the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers’ AAA club.

Has he been demoted, lost his stuff, got tangled up with Susan Sarandon in an unlikely remake of “Bull Durham?” No. Verlander is just making sure he gets in all his practice time.

He’ll pitch against Syracuse, the AAA club for the Washington Nationals for a game set for 1 p.m. on one of the backfields in Lakeland, Fla.
