Nick Castellanos Sent To Minor League Camp

By: Evan Jankens

The Detroit Tigers announced today they have sent their top prospect Nick Castellanos down to the minor leagues, along with seven others. Many thought Castellanos would get a shot with the Tigers and have a part time role. The only problem with that is it could potentially stunt his growth. If Castellanos is going to be with the Tigers, he should play every day -- and that doesn't look possible for him with the addition of Torii Hunter in right field and the way Andy Dirks has played in left. Castellanos is expected to start in left field for Toledo to begin the season.

Along with Castellanos, infielder Argenis Diaz, right-handed pitcher Trevor Bell and outfielder Tyler Collins were sent to minor league camp.

Catcher Bryan Holaday and pitchers Jose Ortega and Duane Below were optioned to Toledo. Holaday was expected to back up Alex Avila until the Tiger signed veteran catcher Brayan Pena this off season.

2B Hernan Perez was optioned to Double-A-Erie.
