TROY (WWJ) – A pair of Troy High School sophomores have won third prize in a C-SPAN video contest that drew nearly 2,000 submissions from students nationwide.
Frank Boudon and Jason Ji address President Barack Obama in the video– asking him to help alleviate poverty in the nation.
“We are so used to living in a wealthier community – just when you see the contrast going to those poorier areas , it’s surprising, so that drew our attention to that problem,” Boudon noted.
C-SPAN asked contest participants to describe the biggest issue facing the nation for their StudentCam documentary competition.
“It really opened my eyes,” said Ji. “How helpless I am, and how poor communities around me are … something should be done to fix the problem for them so that they can lift themselves up and have the lifestyle we have.”
The mini-documentary by Boudon and Ji includes interviews with experts that discuss poverty’s causes and its widespread effects.
