There were three big stories at Tigers Spring Training coming into this season. Who would be the fifth starter, who will be the Tigers closer and would Nick Castellanos make the opening day roster? Two of the three have now been answered.

Castellanos will start the season in Toledo and Rick Porcello will be the Tigers fifth starter.

The move to put Porcello in the starting rotation was announced today by Jim Leyland. Drew Smyly, who was the main competition for the fifth spot, will open the season in the bullpen.

The Tigers also placed OF Avisail Garcia on the 15-day DL.

Matt Tuiasosopo made the Tigers roster as the 5th outfielder. The five outfielders are: Austin Jackson, Andy Dirks, Torii Hunter, Don Kelly and now Tuiasosopo. As of now it looks as if Quintin Berry will not make the roster.

The only roster spot left is for the closer roll. And that battle is playing out between Bruce Rondon and Darin Downs.
