March Madaus: Jim’s Surprising Trick Shot

– broadcast version

CBS 62’s Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus hits the hardwood for the “March Madaus” First Forecast commercial shoot. The veteran meteorologist looks the part with his “Mad Dog” jersey, but it’s quickly apparent that basketball is not his strong suit. Or is it?

Tossing up bricks, missing passes is the schtick for the ad, but toward the end of production, Madaus does something amazing.

The narrator says, “Sometimes you should just stick with what you know.” Madaus walks away from the basket and tosses the ball in the direction of the hoop. After rattling around the rim — it actually drops. “Or not,” adds the narrator.

Listen to the producers’ reaction in the behind the scenes version. It’s priceless.

After learning he actually made the shot, Madaus adds smiling, “We’re done.”

Watch First Forecast with Jim Madaus weeknights at 5 and 11 on CBS 62.
