National Guard Member Charged With Home Invasion
SPRINGFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Police are called to a home in Springfield Township as a homeowner witnesses a man trying to break into his home.
The homeowner called the sheriff's department stating that a man was attempting to enter his home; first through the front door, than attempting to open a side door.
As deputies arrived they saw the suspect, who was dressed in camouflage, attempting to get into the home from a rear sliding door.
Deputies arrested 32-year-old Christopher Murphy at the home and found what they describe as breaking and entering tools, a mask, gloves, knife and air soft pistols in his car.
Authorities discovered that the suspect was a member of the National Guard and addressed the unit commander of the incident.
Murphy was arraigned on Friday at the 52-2nd District Court in Independence Twp. on an attempted home invasion -first degree which is a five-year felony.
