Detroit High School Coach Killed

DETROIT (WWJ) – A recently retired Detroit Public Schools high school basketball coach has been fatally shot.

Police said 54-year-old Charles Knott, who worked at Cody High School, was found dead in his car late Tuesday night.

It happened in the parking lot of his apartment complex on Petoskey, near I-96 and Joy Road on Detroit’s west side. According to an autopsy report, Knott was shot several times — including in the back.

A spokeswoman for the school district said grief counselors are available at the Cody campus for both students and employees.

An investigation is underway. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday evening.
