Hostage Situation At Wayne Apartment

WAYNE (WWJ) – A hostage situation that forced the evacuation of some Wayne residents Monday has ended peacefully.

Wayne police said a person was being held hostage at an apartment on Hannan Road north of Michigan Ave. at about 8:30 a.m. Police established a perimeter around the building and evacuated neighbors.

There was also a precautionary lockdown at nearby Winter-Walker Elementary School that lasted only about an hour.

Police said the victim managed to escape from the apartment and ran to officers.

The suspect came out onto the porch, but ran back into the apartment after seeing police. Police said they were able to take the suspect into custody “without incident,” shortly after 11 a.m.

The relationship between the hostage and the suspect was not immediately clear.

No one was hurt.

No names have been released as an investigation continues.
