Police: Pregnant Prostitute Shot In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a pregnant woman who is a "known prostitute" was shot while working the streets on Detroit's southwest side.

According to police, the 21-year-old woman met up with a John behind an appliance store at Military and W. Fort streets near I-75 around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say the woman entered the man's full-size black pickup truck, but exited the vehicle just moments later after the man demanded sex. The woman was apparently trying to get away from the man when she was shot in the side of her upper torso.

The woman then allegedly walked four blocks to Morrell and Fort streets, perhaps in an attempt to continue working despite being shot. Police later found the woman laying behind a trash dumpster in the parking lot of a Chase Bank.

The woman, who is several months pregnant, was rushed to a local hospital. The woman and her unborn baby are said to be in temporary-serious condition.

Police say they are currently looking for the gunman, who is described as Hispanic, and the black pickup truck.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit Police Criminal Investigations at 313-596-5240 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
