Organizers Cancel 2013 Arab International Festival

DEARBORN (WWJ) - The Arab International festival has been postponed this year.

The event normally held on Warren Ave in Dearborn was called off after organizers announced a change of venue a few weeks ago.

The change was prompted after the city of Dearborn lost in a lawsuit filed by a Christian group that says its members were arrested at the 2010 festival for trying to share their faith.

Organizers say will use this one year hiatus to put together a quality festival for next year.

It's not known if the cancellation of this year's festival was influenced by the announcement by Rev. Terry Jones, the Koran-burning pastor from Florida, that his group Stand Up America! would be protesting at the Arab Festival on June 14.
