Party In Detroit! As City Competes To Host X Games in 2016

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit is locked in a battle with three other cities in a bid to host the X Games. Officials are hoping to put the city over the edge with a party on Tuesday night.

Christopher Gruse is with the ad agency The Work which is putting on the bash. All are invited for food, drink and X games demonstrations. Gruse says the idea is to impress the ESPN and X Games officials who will be in town.

"I can't stress enough, it's showing ESPN what could be what, hopefully, will be and showing the support we've gotten and just showing ESPN what Detroit is all about," said Gruse.

The party is free and will feature music by the Beastie Boys' Mixmaster Mike.

"The ramp will be set up ... in Campus Martius for skateboarders, BMX riders, anyone who can ride or skate is more than welcome to do so," said Gruse.

He told WWJ's Sandra McNeill he's not surprised so many people are behind the bid for Detroit to host the games:

"If you are living in Detroit, working in Detroit - I think it's a testament to everyone living here and everybody is trying to do something to make a change here.

Guests are asked to show up to Campus Martius between 8pm and midnight on Tuesday. Chicago, Austin and Charlotte are competing with Detroit to host the games through 2016.
